Charles Hightower N. CHARLESTON - Charles E. "Joe" Hightower, 74, of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2018, at Trident Medical Center. Joe was born in Florida, on August 17, 1943, to the late Norman and Frankie Hightower, and raised in Denmark, South Carolina. He graduated from Carlisle Military School, class of 1962. Joe joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, honorably discharged in December 1969. He attended Palmer College where he earned an Associate Degree in Criminology in 1975. He chose to service the community as a police officer, being promoted through the ranks, and retiring as a Captain from Charleston County Sheriff's Office in 1995. Joe enjoyed doing his leather work and spending time at the Edisto River. He is survived by his son, Anthony Brett, daughter, Lissa, grandchildren, AJ Pellum, Jr., Kelly Henderson, Jr., and Kalyn Henderson, ex-wife, Karen, and sisters, Margie and Jean. Family and friends are invited to his attend his memorial on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Dorchester Memorial Gardens Chapel, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406, www.charlestonanimalsociety.org.
