Mary Wilkins Truitt – Mt. Pleasant
The spirit of Mary Wilkins Truitt (1917-2018) departed on May 5, 2018. She was predeceased by her paternal grand-parents, William R. and Mary Green Wilkins of Milton, Delaware, her brother William Franklin Wilkins (W.W. II Veteran) and her husband, Ernest A. Truitt. She is survived by daughters, Virginia Truitt Prevost (Michael) and Kathleen Truitt Locke, a half-brother John Wilkins (Carolyn), a half-sister Josie Chumley (Rob), three grandchildren Joseph Rayman (Jen), Ernest Rayman, Debbie Burke (Travis), three great-grandchildren Nolan and Grayson, Matthew Rayman (Brittany) and great-great granddaughter Aurora.
She was a graduate of the Homeopathic-Memorial School of Nursing, Wilmington, Delaware (class of 1939), an extraordinarily avid reader especially of historically based novels and a charter member of the College of Charleston Center for Creative Retirement. She traveled extensively visiting some 59 countries on five continents. As a child she spent summers on the beaches of Delaware where her grandparents had a cottage. She loved the Atlantic Ocean, beaches and trees. She frequently lamented the deforestation of the world’s forests.
