Posted May 04, 2017

John (Rickey) Lloyd was born in Jacksonville Florida while spending most of his life here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. At an early age he left home to travel the country with his uncle Billy Chester whom worked as a technician for Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special. He was also a familiar face in the 80's at the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach while working maintenance and safety on the Swamp Fox Rollercoaster and had been featured front page twice in the local newspaper ( the Sunset ) for his fearless feats 75 feet a top the wooden “Mouse”. Later under the apprenticeship of Mark Sandlin he learned the flooring trade and was subcontracted by Rainbow Carpets serving with his own “Thunder” crew installing flooring in the Charleston and surrounding areas. He retired to Cross area where he lived until his sudden death. John enjoyed his retired life at the local bars karaoking, dancing and playing pool while fishing on the Lakes. He was well known for his willingness to help anyone and had a love for animals. He would often give friends and strangers alike a place to lay their head and took in stray and neglected animals. His modest, down to earth grit and huge heart will be greatly missed in the community.
