Henry L. "Hank" Knier Sr., 82, of Ridgeville, S.C., passed away at his home following a lengthy illness and surrounded by his family on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.

Born in Corning, N.Y., on June 25, 1935, he was the son of Geraldine McIlwain and Clayton Knier Sr. Shortly after graduating from Corning Northside High School, Hank served four years in the United States Navy, assigned to the U.S.S. Randolph.

It was during his military service where he met and courted the former Waneta Rice Gerow, of Painted Post, N.Y., marrying his "Kitten"  on May 17, 1958. Her death in 2016 severed a 58-year marriage.

Hank was employed at Ingersoll Rand in New York, and Brodart, Arrolet Manufacturing and Sprout Waldron in Pennsylvania.

Shortly after leaving Sprout Waldron, he was the proprietor of Knier Appliance and HVAC service until retiring in 1990. He and Neta traveled extensively, eventually moving to South Carolina.

Hank was an charter member of the East Campbell Volunteer Fire Company in New York, a life member for the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Company in Pennsylvania, and an active member of the Sandridge Volunteer Fire Company in South Carolina.

Additionally, Hank volunteered his time to the Boy Scouts of America; served as a school board director for the Muncy School District; and in his later years, for the Springhill United Methodist Church.

Surviving are seven children, Al Jelliff and Marty (Shelly), of South Carolina, Terry (Debbie), of Texas, Henry L. Jr. (Sandy), of Michigan, and Jerry (Pam), Rod (Cindy) and Lisa Crist (Jerry), all of Pennsylvania; numerous relatives, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie and Judie, of South Carolina; and beloved dog, Puggsley.

A memorial service honoring his life is scheduled 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Springhill United Methodist, Highway 27, Holy Hill, South Carolina.
