Robert Lewis Ayers

CW04 Robert Lewis Ayers Sr. (ret) of Summerville, SC, passed away following a lengthy illness on May 27, 2018. He was born July 6, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Wildwood, NJ. He graduated from Wildwood High School in 1965 and joined the military in 1966. Bob was a 30-year veteran of the US Army and received a BA from Saint Leo University. Over the course of his military career, he was stationed in Ethiopia, Turkey, Virginia, and Germany. He was very proud of his service and loved his country. After retiring from the Army, Bob and his wife moved to SC where he worked as a contractor for the Department of the Navy. He retired from his second career as a logistician and Project Manager in 2010.

Bob (also known as PopPop) was a wonderful grandfather and volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and Committee Chair for Pack 776 in Summerville for his grandsons. He loved to volunteer at their elementary school and was a proud fan over many seasons of little league baseball. He was happiest when spending time with his grandsons on his boat and fishing. He was well known for his kindness, love of his family, and sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his children Dawn Ayers Adams and Sandie Ayers of Summerville, SC and Robert Ayers, Jr of Portland, ME; his grandchildren Dalton Adams of Summerville, SC and Eden Ayers of Westbrook, ME; his brother Edward Ayers and sister-in-law Frances Ayers of Cape May Court House, NJ; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was met in heaven by his parents (Anna and Joseph Ayers); his sister Claire Ayers Koone of Cape May, NJ; his wife of 36 years Barbara J Ayers; and his grandson Dillon Robert Adams of Summerville, SC.
