Lt. Colonel Ted R. Otey, Sr., November 8, 1924-April 21, 2017, Summerville, South Carolina.
Lt. Colonel Ted R. Otey Sr., age 92, passed away at Trident Hospital in Charleston, S.C.. He was the son of Colonel Basil R. Otey and Rozella McIntryre Otey. Ted is survived by his wife, Elaine, son, David R. Otey, daughter, Cynthia O. Lyon, and her husband Robert E. Lyon, Jr. and their children, Robert J. Lyon and William H. Lyon, and his wife, Lauren W. Lyon and their daughter, Leighton, Ted's great granddaughter. Ted's oldest son, Ted R. Otey, Jr. preceded him in death (2010).
He graduated with a B.S. in Business from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot in the strategic airlift command and military airlift command. His career in the Air Force spanned 32 years and included service during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel and settled in Summerville, SC. Ted then began a residential construction company, T.R. Otey Construction. He built many homes in Kings Grant, Archdale, and Ashborough East. He retired as a home builder after 10 years. He then enjoyed the rest of his life spending time with family.
